Looks like you have it right, save it and you should be able to read and retrieve data from the drive after that.
I can't say thanks enough for all the help everyone has posted here to help me out with this issue. Best thing after that would be to burn the important files to optical disc s as soon as possible. I just need to get it working so I can try a few programs I have to extract data off of bad hard drives.

If I disabled this on her computer could the disk possibly boot up windows allowing me to transfer some szta before it goes bad for good? You guys are really the best. And none of those options after entering them has promise Raid.

I have not yet been able to find a guide, just the Do not have the floopy that came with board although i did buy it new and would not matter because I do not have a floopy drive attached to machine. Also mentioned was ensuring drivers were loaded in c drive.

You will then need to settle which disk to boot from - not a big issue. Will give it a go and report back.
I think what will happen now msj install windows again and then make the bad drive a second and use some type of data recovery program to try and get the data my wife needs back.
The size wouldn't be a problem.

I did take note having the new drive set up in an array and then taking it out again did not cause any issues and it looks like it k7n22 switch back and forth. I also like the suggestion of the linux way of trying to save some files. You could try jumper it to SATA 1.
You will need to set up single drive RAID 0 array. Mas with the drive model listed which is the bad drive I want to access, the capacity of the drive which is correct and Assignment N.

Activating it will in plain language make the connection ports on the board saata for ser1 or ser2, correct? It is said max GB, but if it can handle that it should be able to handle bigger disks, too. The sata setup was just to have the ability to read the drive and thus wanting to have sata running. The book is telling me after reboot I have to format the drive which is what I do not want to do. You are correct Sharp about it setting up at the cluster size of 64 KB and was not aware it could hurt the existing drive with info on it.
The book sataa to create a security array which would be one disk with data and you add another and then copy all of the files on to it. Yes, we know she's hot! I know its here somewhere I think but cannot find the exact command to activate sata. Instead of trying to get it to work in your PC there is another option. I would guess the drivers not installed controls this correct?

It's all explained there. It is a RAID setup. I am guessing I need to change some settings to hopefully get board to recognize drive but not sure which ones. Like always, any help or suggestions greatly appreciated. No as XP can look for drivers in a floppy only.
